The idea for the North Valley Housing Trust (NVHT) was born through the process of creating the City of Chico Housing Element, adopted in August 2009.
A broad public outreach process involved the participation of about 140 community members from the nonprofit, for-profit and government sectors, in addition to a number of reviews by the City Planning Commission and City Council. The highest priority goal of the Housing Element is the creation of a local housing trust fund.
A Workgroup comprised of representatives from the following organizations began meeting in early 2012 to begin identifying NVHT’s mission, goals and growth strategy.
- City of Chico
- Housing Authority of the County of Butte
- Butte County Behavioral Health
- North Valley Community Foundation
- Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP)
- Community Action Agency of Butte County
- Jesus Center
- Chico Community Shelter Partnership (Torres Shelter)
- Catalyst Domestic Violence Services
- Northern Valley Catholic Community Service
- Youth for Change
- Help Central
